Our oven is being incredibly temperamental at the moment. Whenever I light the gas and shut the door, the oven turns off again. This makes me think of all the exciting things that I could be baking, if only the oven was working.
Right now I’d like to be baking:
- the maple syrup scones featured on the port2port blog a couple of weeks ago. Apparently they come from the fabulous-looking Breakfast, Lunch, Tea cookbook which I keep eyeing off in bookshops.
- Ilva’s chocolate and orange cake from the Lucullian Delights blog. I’ve tried this one already, it’s a simple recipe and you end up with a really lovely and moist cake.
Sigh! Time to contact the landlord …

I spent many years living in a house without a working oven and itcan be a real drag and a damper on your cooking style I hope that you manage to get it fixed soon.
Best wishes

I hope you got your oven fixed — maintenance request in on mine and I’m not holding my breath on a quick turn around. Oh well…
I’m off to NOT look at recipes that require oven time — I’ll only sit here and stew about my inability to use my oven.
Heh. Stew… :groan:
